Choosing the right niche can be such a vital task when venturing into a new online business. It doesn’t have to be a difficult process, in fact it can be quite simple. You’ll see exactly how simple it can actually be in the article when I go over all about how to choose a niche for a blog.
What Is A Niche
First of all for those of you who are new the online marketing world may wondering what is a niche? What on earth is this guy talking? Such a weird word, what could it possibly mean?
Simply put a niche is a specific audience you target with your online business. So pretty much anything that has an audience can be a niche. For example people who are looking for iPhone 6 cases is a niche, people looking for how to back-flip is a niche and even people looking for how to be a hobo (no seriously you can google it, there’s even books on it).
So I just wanted to make that clear. Also what a niche does is give you direction for how you go about building out your website content. It all starts with a niche
Narrow It Down
What you should also avoid is choosing a niche that is too broad. For example a niche like health is way too broad especially if you’re going to be a one man team.
Why? I’m glad you asked. If you chose a niche like this then it would be your responsibility to cover all of the topics under health for example you’d have to cover fitness, beauty, weight loss, medicine, etc. A niche like this is best left to a large number of individuals.
So now what might be narrower? Let’s use the same example of health. Like fitness, this is still a bit too broad, they are several areas of fitness such as bodybuilding, crossfit etc.
Now any one of those would be a better niche but you could also go narrower than that. You could have a website specifically about helping people get better arms. This would be a perfect example of a narrow niche.
Have A Passion Or Interest?
Now this is what would make working online feel less like work. Did you know that you could actually turn a passion or an interest you have in to a profitable online business?
Yes you can actually do this. Just make sure to follow the above narrowing down tips. An example of this would be if you like a certain sport like soccer, then you would narrow it down to maybe be about your favorite football team for example and create content about that team.
This would be a great experience for you especially since you would already be doing the necessary to ensure that you are knowledgeable about the certain niche. Even if you need to do additional research you would enjoy doing it.
How To Do Niche Research
So what if you don’t have a passion or something that you think you can turn into an online business? This seems to happen quite often but if this is you then you also have options, don’t worry.
You have the option of looking around for the most profitable niche you can find. You can go on sites like dmoz and do some deep research until you are able to find a niche that has a few characteristics.
First and foremost you shouldn’t try to go into a niche that you could see as very annoying to write about. I mean if you can see yourself doing research and coming up with at least over 100 posts then that niche isn’t for you. That being said you should ask if can you see yourself doing an adequate amount of research to become an expert. If you can answer yes for both of those then you have a strong contender.
You could also do some keyword research to see what the competition is gonna be like before entering a niche. If you wanted to be in the niche of casual men’s shirts you could look at the competition and even see if you can narrow down your niche even more. This could also help you choose your domain name.
How To Find A Profitable Niche Video:
Any Niche Can Be Profitable
One very important thing I want you to remember is that just about any niche can be profitable. The niche you choose to build your website around is all up to you.
You may just want to look at the monetary side of things before making your decision. If the niche you decide sells products for about $5 and if the affiliate programs you find offer at most 10% commissions then that would be $0.50 per sale. So if you managed to accumulate 1000 sales which is a lot you’d be looking at $500. Even if you managed this each month that’s still not much money but if it’s what you’re looking for then go for it but as for me, I think I’ll pass on that one.
Now you also avoid focusing too much on money as this can hinder your online efforts and take your focus away from producing great content. You’d just end having mediocre content that you’d be just hoping converts. Needless to say you’d get burned out really fast.
